2003 Video - Bending Tie Rod - MOAB
2003 Just wanted to share a short video
of what can happen when not airing down
your tires when off-roading. When I was in
Moab on vacation and Hired Dan Mick as our
tour guide for our run on Hells Revenge.
If you are not familiar with Hells revenge
it is one of the most difficult trails in
Moab. Lets just say there were some parts
where my heart was pumping, my kid
screamed to get out, and my wife was as
stiff as a board. My son actually had to
get out and ride with our guide in his
jeep as he was to scared in the back of
our H2 because all he could see was the
sides of the vehicle. Anyway we met with Dan in the
morning before we headed out and talked
about airing down. It was the consensus
that it was a warm day, we were running
nice rock crawling tires which is the
exact same ones he was running (Goodyear
MTRs), and the the slick rock has
excellent traction. We went up, down and
all around hells revenge with no problems
whatsoever. We came to a very large pit
know as the "belly button" which is VERY
steep both in and out. We went down and up
with no problems. We came back a second
time via the opposite end and went down,
then going back up we lost traction. Not
because the H2 could not make the climb,
but because the terrain was un-even and
the tires were not conforming due to the
fact they were not aired down. Well on the
way back up the H2 started slipping and
due to my in-experience in off-roading I
mistakenly gave it more gas as I was not
going to let this rock beat me. I started
bouncing and then heard some not so pretty
sounds. It was the sound of my tie-rod
bending in. So I had one wheel straight
and one bent in. Luckily I had the cameras rolling
and put together a little clip. You can
see from one of the angles as I am going
up and down that I am actually sitting on
the corners of my MTRs. 2003 IHOG Michigan Snow

ND Truck Wash The following pictures were taken
during my first test drive off roading
deep in the 4X4 trails at Spider Lake, MN.
We were alone so we were not able to get
any good action shots. But believe me,
there were some spots were I was not sure
we could make it through. The H2 took
everything with out breaking a
sweat. These pictures were taken about a
month later in September. After an
afternoon with the family & dogs at a
nearby lake in Hawley, MN, we were driving
back to Fargo on some back roads and came
across this sand pit. Of course I had to
stop and have some fun. Since we were
alone and I had no extraction gear I was
not able to test the H2 to it's full
potential. We did have some fun
though. How big is the Hummer H2 you ask?
It is huge!! Here are a few pictures to
give you some perspective. I know these ATV pictures have
nothing to do with the H2 or Hummers.
However I am assuming that since you are
looking at a Hummer website there may be a
good chance you are interested in 4x4s and
offroading. Hence; you may be interested
in ATVs as well. If this is the case,

If you are in to 4-wheeling then you must
to go to Moab at least once in your life.
Any pictures you have seen of Moab do not
do it justice. It is so majestic that you
almost feel like you are in a movie.
This was our first trip to Moab and for
our Hummer day trip we hired
Dan
Mick of "Dan
Mick's Guided Tours". Dan
took us on Hells Revenge which tops the
Moab difficulty scale. Our day with Dan
was much more enjoyable as he spotted us
on difficult obstacles, provided very
enjoyable and informative commentary all
along the trail, and had dinner with us
when the day was over. We
bent a tie-rod on one
obstacle and Dan helped bend it back with
his winch and had a new one on order
before we even got off the trail. Now that
is service!!
If you are going to Moab I HIGHLY
recommend you hire Dan as your tour guide.

He will even tell you where and where not
to eat!!
It takes about two hours climbing a very
rocky trail to reach the summit which is
7000 feet overlooking Moab. We went back
down in the dark which gave us an
opportunity to use our off-road
lights.
Driving up to the ledge was VERY nerve
racking. All you can see is sky and you
know that if you slip on the gas or break
you will fall thousands of feet to your
grizzly death. I am glad my loving wife
was there to spot me forward and not let
me die for a picture.
Lastly the picture in which I am sitting
on the side of the ledge was made possible
by the lack of oxygen.
These include stops in the Rocky Mountains
on our way to Moab, and pics from Sorrrel
River Ranch, where we stayed.

I am very pleased to
announce some quality entertainment at the
expense of my H2 :-)
What a perfect day! 35 Hummers, lots of
snow and great tank trails. We went
4-wheeling at the Grayling military
training grounds. The 16 hour drive from
North Dakota was well worth it!!
On our drive back from the snow run we
stopped in Christmas
MI. We were so amazed
at how much snow there was, we had to take
some pictures. There were feet upon feet
of snow. Christmas is between Lake
Superior and Lake Michigan. The lake
effect gets this town some serious snow
and thus it's name is well
deserved.
Elvis Lives!! If you live in Fargo and see
me driving around town, chances are you
will see Elvis enjoying some fresh
air.
Elvis is our one year old (as of winter
2003) Great Dane. Before the Hummer, Elvis
got to ride around in my Durango. He very
quickly out grew the Durango. My wife has
an Acura MDX and he has to lay down when
he rides in it. The H2 is perfect for
Great Danes. He can actually stand up and
move around when he is riding in it.
If you are looking for the BEST breed of
dog in the world. I HIGHLY recommend a
Great
Dane. I could go on
and on about how wonderful Elvis is,
however this is a Hummer site, not a Great
Dane site. I may have to make a Great Dane
site some day.
Lucy is our wonderful Pug sitting in the
passenger seat.
March 2003 - It was a lazy, cold, and
windy Sunday afternoon in ND. I figured I
would go and in the surrounding country
side and see if I could fine anything
interesting to take photographs of. Did
not find much so I spent most of my time
taking pictures of the Hummer :-) You can
not tell very well from the pictures, but
the wind chill for more the 20 below zero.
I could not stand outside for more then a
minute or two.
I am unable to go through a normal car
wash. Therefor in order to wash the
Hummer, I have to go through a Big Rig
wash.
More ATV pictures. These are from our 2003
Moab trip.
